ZhouWorks · Personal creative studio
Hello, I’m Zhou Hai.
My background is in engineering, followed by software development, project management, and technology leadership. What keeps me curious is understanding how things work, exploring new perspectives, and bringing my own ideas to life.
At ZhouWorks, I make room for two things I love: bringing ideas to life and writing about what is worth sharing — from work and technology to history, personal interests, and everyday experiences.
01 / My journey
From engineering to new directions
I studied Engineering Mechanics at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, with a foundation in finite element analysis (FEA). Engineering taught me to reason from first principles and test my assumptions.
Driven by an interest in technology, I taught myself web development, built content management systems (CMS), and went on to work with business workflows and customer relationship management (CRM) software. I also worked on construction information digitization, including common data environments (CDE) and solutions using Autodesk Forma.
Alongside technical work, I have taken on project and technology management responsibilities, including a CTO role. Those experiences have helped me see the same challenge from the perspectives of engineers, users, and decision-makers.
Through each stage, the desire to explore and make new things has stayed with me. ZhouWorks gives that curiosity a place of its own.
02 / How I work
Learning through real problems
I usually begin by understanding the problem, its context, and the people involved. A solution matters when it fits real needs and practical constraints.
I like experimenting, making things myself, and testing the outcome. Working across design, technology, and management helps me connect the parts of a system instead of treating each feature in isolation.
Some ideas become applications; others stay as experiments, notes, or lessons. I value both the process of exploring and the results it produces.
03 / How I think
Ask questions. See the whole system.
For me, critical thinking means examining assumptions, looking for evidence, and being willing to change my mind when better information appears.
Systems thinking helps me notice the connections between people, processes, and technology. A small change can have wider effects, so understanding the context matters as much as finding an answer.
I am interested in emerging technologies, including AI, but I still want to judge the usefulness and quality of the results for myself. Tools can help; curiosity, judgment, and responsibility remain human work.
That is also how I approach ZhouWorks: room to try ideas, patience to improve them, and a willingness to share what I learn.
“A good question is often the beginning of a new perspective.”
04 / Interests & writing
Beyond technology
My interests include technology, design, and history. I am especially drawn to history for its stories of people, decisions, and consequences over time.
I want the ZhouWorks blog to be a place for knowledge, observations, experiences, and personal perspectives — from an engineering project to a subject I happened to spend time exploring.
For me, this studio is an evolving space shaped by what I learn, what I make, and the interests I continue to follow.
